# Get started with dashboards

> Organize project metrics and trace feeds into reusable dashboards

Dashboards let you explore your project's trace data with widgets. Use them to follow latency, cost, token usage, and errors, or keep a trace feed beside your metrics.

## Create a dashboard

1. Open **Dashboard** in your project's navigation.
2. Click **New dashboard**, give it a name, and optionally add a description.
3. Create the dashboard, then add a widget.

Creating and editing dashboards or widgets requires MEMBER or ADMIN access. VIEWERs can read existing dashboards. See [workspace roles](/docs/getting-started/concepts#roles).

## Build a widget

The widget builder offers fields and aggregations for the selected data view. Choose the metric you want to inspect, apply filters such as environment or model, and select a breakdown when you want to compare groups. Use the preview to check the result before saving the widget.

Choose a time range that contains your application's traffic. A dashboard with no matching data is different from a metric whose value is zero; check the time range and filters if a widget has no result.

You can edit saved widgets as your monitoring needs change. Dashboards belong to the current project, so switch projects to view another application's dashboards.

## Next steps

* [Set up alerts](/docs/alerts/overview) when a metric needs a threshold notification.
* [Understand workspace access](/docs/getting-started/concepts) before sharing the dashboard with teammates.
